Interactive Installation, Documentary & Cultural Programme
Overview:
This multidisciplinary project aims to raise awareness about the cultural, historical, and ecological richness of the island of Tabarca (Spain) through a combination of an interactive artistic installation, a cultural documentary, and a series of local cultural events and talks. The goal is to communicate Tabarca’s unique identity and fragile ecosystem to visitors, promoting a more conscious and respectful experience of the island.

The installation will use immersive technologies such as motion sensors, projection mapping, and ambient soundscapes. It will activate only when visitors stop to contemplate, symbolizing the island’s deeper nature: Tabarca reveals itself through silence and presence. Visual and sound content will portray the marine environment, cultural heritage, architecture, and the oral memories of its people.

The documentary will capture personal testimonies from Tabarca’s local population—especially older residents—and explore the island’s history shaped by Genoese, Tunisian, and Spanish roots. It will reflect on its transition from a self-sufficient fishing village to a seasonal tourism hotspot, and raise questions about its future.
